Housekeepers Perspective: Cleaning Floors

Many will agree that cleaning floors is perhaps one of the worst tasks to clean in a home. Its difficult to find a proper mop that does a good job and doesn’t leave your floors worst off than when you first started. There are many floor mops that are out on the market today and each promise to make your floors shine and left like new. This is further from the truth. Finding a proper mop  to do the right job can be a challenge. Their are so many mops that don’t live up to standards and the cheaper the brand, the less of a quality job it will perform.  The key I have found in choosing a good quality mop is its absorption . Does it rinse well enough that it won’t leave excess water on your floors. If you can mop your floors with minimal amount of water left on them, then you will experience and enjoy awesome clean floors to walk on.

In addition to using a good mop, its important that your flooring is clean BEFORE you mop your floors. I cannot stress this enough. There is so many professional cleaners out there today who take short cuts and  skip this step and not use a broom and dustpan to sweep away any dirt and debris from floors first before they wet mop their floors. In my humble opinion,  this is simply lazy and a lack of quality care in doing their jobs.

When I was working as a housekeeper during my college days, I was expected to clean floors on my hands and knees, the old fashion way.  When I did this, I knew that I would be cleaning everything on the floor and I can better see what I was cleaning.  One thing that I used to make sure that I did a thorough job was a vacuum. I use to vacuum every single square inch on the floor to pick up every dust particle, debris, nook and granny. Why It’s important to do this because when you mop your floors afterwards, you don’t have to deal with any crumbs, dirt and debris that is picked up by your mop or cloth which can leave your floors and equipment dirtier than before.

In important to note also that In order to keep your floors white, shiny and brand new, you may need to invest in a good quality scrub brush and knee pads.  Using a cleaning brush to clean your floors at least once a month on your hand and knees with help you preserve the integrity of your floors and maintain them for many years to come.
