How to Clean Your Coffee Maker

Do you love your coffee? Have you ever had a freshly brew coffee and noticed that the taste wasn’t what you expected? I have and many have had this experience also. You may wonder why your coffee doesn’t taste, well…like coffee.

One of the dirtiest appliances that I always encounter in cleaning homes and businesses is the coffee makers. Its probably the most frequently used appliance in the kitchen, yet the least one that is properly cared for.

A lot of people may not realize this but just like everything in your kitchen, from dishes, to glasses, mugs, and counters, coffee makers also need to be cleaned from time to time. Remember the time when you bought your coffee maker? Remember the time when you made that first pot of coffee with it? How did your coffee taste. Would you like to re-experienced that same taste? Well, you can.

Most people today lead busy lives. They cannot be bothered to clean every little appliance in their home. It just isn’t a necessity to do so. But if you are the kind of individual who loves the taste of their coffee to be fresh everyday, all day,  then you would want to know what you would need to do to experience that taste everyday.

Let’s be honest, when was the last time you actually cleaned your coffee maker?  Now, I am not talking about a quick rinse or splashing some warm water on it. I mean actually cleaning it, inside and out. Most coffee makers come with instruction manuals and most coffee manufacture companies recommend to clean their coffee machines at least once a month, if not sooner, for best results. A properly maintain coffee maker can be the difference of enjoying a good cup of coffee as oppose to a bad cup of sludge. Ugh.

Easy as 1-2-3. Anyone can clean a coffee maker.

Cleaning your coffee maker is easier than you think and takes very little time in your busy schedule. But the benefits that you receive are all worth it.

What you would need is basically two ingredients,  vinegar and distilled water. If you don’t have distilled water, make sure your water is the cleanest that you can get.  Mix a 50 / 50 solution of combine vinegar and distilled water in your coffee maker reservoir and allow it to brew just like you would normally brew a regular pot of coffee. Once the cycle is finished, you then want to fill your coffee maker reservoir again, this time with ONLY distilled water  and start the brewing process again to elimate any vinegar smells that maybe left over inside your coffee maker. If necessary, repeat this process a third or fourth time until all the vinegar is no longer in the coffee maker. When you notice that your kitchen no longer smells like vinegar, then you will know that you thoroughly cleaned your coffee maker and you can once again enjoy a freshly brewed coffee.

If you do this on a monthly basis, you will be able to not only enjoy a freshly brewed coffee everytime, but you will be able to save maintenance costs in caring and maintaining for your coffee maker appliance.

If you really have an old coffee maker and after trying this cleaning method your coffee maker is still not clean enough for you to enjoy that freshly brewed coffee taste, perhaps it’s time to invest in a new coffee maker.

I hope you enjoyed this simple method of how to keep your coffee maker clean.
